The paintings of contemporary artist Sheila Finch have been exhibited in galleries and in private collections throughout the United States and Europe. She has received recognition from the National Arts Appreciation Program, as well as a prestigious show of work at Picasso's atelier at L’ Espace Bateau Lavior in Paris. Her painting, “Coastal Light” was recently featured in The Coastal Living Magazine’s article, “True Colors”.
At age twelve, with an artistic mother as her first mentor, Sheila began her study of studio painting with well-known Ohio artist, Gene Woods. This began an exploration into the techniques of the Great Masters, as well as the Tonalist, Impressionist, and Color Field movements, which influenced what became her own distinctive style.
In 1992 she moved to Germany with her husband and two young sons, where she first began painting outdoors. Her little village of Hutschenhausen and the neighboring nature preserve exposed her to glorious colors that made their way from her brush to canvas. Today, Sheila’s stunningly color-rich, vibrant, luminous paintings continue to be inspired by nature, especially the sky, sea, and landscapes of northern California, her home since 1995.
Finch's art now delights corporate and private collectors worldwide, including the permanent collection of the Carnegie Foundation at Stanford and Paul Weiss in New York City.
